Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today participated in testing of the first heating installation using biomass. The event took place at the company where the concerned boilers are manufactured, with the help of Japanese engineers

The new installations, which will be produced within a project on efficient use of solid fuel from biomass,, will be set in 25 schools and kindergartens of Moldova by next spring.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that, by carrying out such projects ,the living conditions from rural communities of Moldova would improve. "This grant will change the living and  work of 25 kindergartens and schools from the country. The most important aspect is that these new technologies will improve the living conditions in these institutions and I always say that quality education is a priority for the government. This project contributes to the transformation, modernisation, creation of better conditions for children. This modern equipment allows us to understand renewable energy, to reduce our dependence on conventional energy resources," said the prime minister.

Similarly, a plant producing pellets will be constructed to provide high quality fuel to the institutions. The prime minister thanked the Japanese government for willingness to help people from Moldovan villages have a better life. It is about a grant worth 12 million dollars, and most equipment comes from Japanese small and medium enterprises.

The project on efficient use of solid fuel from biomass, developed with the support of Japan, aims at promoting heating systems based on biomass products. This will significantly reduce energy costs, will develop sustainable heating systems and encourage the use of renewable energy.

The project fits the provisions of the Energy Strategy 2020, which provides for the use of biomass as a high priority direction.
