Prime Minister Iurie Leanca participated in the inauguration of the Diaspora’s Days today. The event is organised for the first time in Moldova, on 28-30 August, at the initiative of the Bureau for Relations with Diaspora.

Leanca highlighted that the Diaspora’s Days were a part of a string of actions meant to consolidate the relation and facilitate the communication between the government and Diaspora, as well as to mobilise the Diaspora’s and civil society’s associations for Moldova’s sustainable development.

Leanca underscored the importance of involving our fellow countrymen from abroad in the social and economic life of Moldova and that one of the goals of this event was to take over the experience gained by them in the developed countries, in order to modernise Moldova.

„I wish that this interaction between the government and Diaspora, which will be a very intense one on next days, to be useful for our society, for the country in whole and for each citizen,” Leanca said.

After the inauguration, Leanca held a discussion with the Moldovan Diaspora’s representatives for more than two hours. Attending the talks were over 50 fellow countrymen from different countries, including, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Russia, Ireland, France, etc.

They approached the governmental programmes to support the Diaspora, development of the Moldovan cultural and educational centre in various states, the activity of Moldova’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad, as well as the evolution of the regional situation in the context of the events in Ukraine.

Within the Diaspora’s Days, all institutions subordinated to the government organised meetings with representatives of the Diaspora today, in order to answer to questions, as well as to find solutions to present problems.

The government is set to organise the Diaspora’s days at national and local level by late August annually.
