Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today participated in an annual conference of teachers from the Chisinau municipality. He informed about the measures that had been taken by the government, in order enhance the quality of education and consolidate the role of teachers in this process.
„During more years, the education has been left secondary in Moldova and promotion of reforms - so necessary for this sector – was delayed. The things took a positive turn and, over the past time, the entire area - and, especially the teachers, who represent the driving force of the progress in education – got in the midst of attention of the government and all the society again,” Leanca said. „I do not say these words on courtesy purpose, but because the education has indeed become a national priority in Moldova. The improving of education’s quality is the safest way to move forward the country and to develop a European future. Together, we must make cure that each lesson, each school activity contributes to bringing up young people who not only can find a job, but are also able to create new workplaces for others,” Leanca said. Leanca added that the new Education Code represented a modern approach, meant to improve the quality of education in all schools. And the new financing methodology, based on standard cost per pupil, will allow schools investing in modernisation. The prime minister emphasised that he knew from his own experience what the work of a teacher meant, as his father was a school teacher all his life. At the same time, Leanca urged the teachers to help modernise the education system, in order to ensure a worthy future to children and the country. In his speech, Leanca said that, in 2014, 27 kindergartens were restored and another 896 ones were endowed with didactic materials. Besides, the 20-million-euro-worth grant, provided by the Romanian government, will allow the authorities to further invest in the above-mentioned institutions. At the same time, Leanca highlighted that the lyceums were also modernised and renovated. Thus, about 90 institutions will be restored in the next four years and the constructions works for the first five ones will start by late 2014.
