The message said:"Dear compatriots,Twenty one years ago, a new state - the Republic of Moldova - appeared on the world map, a state that firmly embarked on the path of democracy and reforms. Back then, our dignified predecessors faced all dangers and threats and organized a large-scale movement for democracy and national self-determination, which, on 27 August 1991, led to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova. We owe them the fact that presently we live in a free and democratic state and on this holiday we offer them the most beautiful words of gratitude for the courage, spirit of sacrifice and far-sightedness that they displayed in a period of maximum responsibility for our country.
